In Canada, the possession and use of nuclear substances and radiation devices are regulated by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in accordance with the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA), its associated regulations and CNSC licences. Nuclear substances and radiation devices account for about 2 500 of the CNSC licences and are widely used in medicine, research and teaching, with the majority issued for a variety of industrial applications.
