Species at Risk Act Permits

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is responsible for issuing permits under sections 73 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA). These permits authorize an activity that would otherwise contravene a SARA prohibition, as long as certain conditions can be met. The Permits Authorizing an Activity Affecting Listed Wildlife Species Regulations establishes the information that the applicant must provide and require that a permit is issued or refused within 90 days of the acknowledgement of the receipt of the application sent to the applicant. The 90 day time limit does not apply in certain circumstances. (Species at Risk, Fisheries and Oceans Canada.)
