The National Environmental Emergencies Centre (NEEC) is the focal point for the coordination and provision of ECCC’s science-based expert advice to support the response to environmental emergencies (oil and chemical spills). The NEEC provides scientific and technical advice (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) such as weather and ice conditions, air and water dispersion modelling, oil fate and behaviour information, information on wildlife and other resources at risk from a spill. This information supports decision-making about spill response and remediation. The NEEC is also responsible for notifications of environmental emergencies as per the Release and Environmental Emergency Notification Regulations.
