Following a request for financial assistance from Quebec for the July 6, 2013 train derailment and explosion in Lac-Megantic, the Government of Canada committed to cost-share with Quebec, on a 50-50 basis: response and recovery costs (up to $25 million); and decontamination costs (up to $95 million). Public Safety Canada, as the lead department for federal emergency management issues, is working with Quebec officials on a Contribution Agreement to disburse the funds.
